Our Occupational First Aid course equips students for emergencies in a high risk work environment and provides the skills necessary to be responsible for a first aid room.

Skill Set Description

Occupational First Aid Skill Set provides a set of skills to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in a workplace environment, including the skills to provide an emergency first aid response in the event of an emergency.

Location:
We run our classes at the 54 Cessnock Rd Weston NSW 2326 or in the workplace

Course Duration (face to face)

  • Face to Face – 21 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
  • Blended delivery – 16 hours (minimum) face to face course – with the addition of 5 hours self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course
  • Refresher training – 16 hours (minimum)– with the addition of 5 hours self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates.

 

Work Placement Arrangements
No work placement will be required as part of this course.

Cost: $495 per person

  • Payment Terms – Payment for individual participants is upfront, group booking payment terms are based on agreement between the client and service provider.

 

Assessment Requirements
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

What happens at the course?

Assessment Activities
Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

    • Performance tasks – The assessor will observe you demonstrating the following:
      • Recognise an emergency and make the scene safe
      • Assess and monitor a casualty
      • Locate workplace policies and procedures
      • Administer oxygen for the unconscious and the conscious casualty
      • Infant CPR, Adult/child CPR & defibrillation
      • Anaphylaxis & epi pen
      • Asthma & medication
      • Choking
      • Head injury
      • Turn a casualty on his/her side
      • Bleeding control & shock
      • Pit for snake/spider bite
      • Rice for sprain
      • Bandage & sling for fracture
      • Seizure
      • Basic triage
      • Reporting – Written incident report, verbal reporting, debriefing and evaluating
      • Check, maintain and clean equipment ready for future use
    • And to manage first aid facilities and resources in the workplace:
      • Determine workplace first aid requirements and establish and maintain workplace first aid facilities
      • Complete workplace risk assessment/response plan
      • Maintain workplace first aid records
      • Review the provision of the first aid in the workplace
    • Theory assessment
      • A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. You must complete all assessment questions.
